Kutztown will celebrate the 200th anniversary of its incorporation as a Borough in 2015.  To begin planning for this celebration the Kutztown Bicentennial Committee initiated a contest in the Spring of 2011 to select the logo for Kutztown’s Bicentennial.   Fourteen designs were submitted to the committee, and three finalists were chosen at the end of July 2011.  And the winner is…

Laura Richardson

Richardson, originally from Federalsburg, Maryland, considers Kutztown her “home away from home.”  She states, “I may not be from Kutztown, or even Pennsylvania, but I absolutely love the town, from the Airport Diner to the twisty slide at the park.”  Even though she’s a busy student, along with serving as an intern in the creative department at Crayola, Richardson still found time to enter a design in the contest.  “I always try to keep myself busy.  I am constantly making pet art-projects for myself.  I have done signs and banners for my hometown, and am currently working on two paintings for a client.”  She entered the contest as a challenge to herself.  “I wanted to show that I have a lot of potential and can go toe-to-toe with more experienced designers.”  Her design was also inspired by PA Dutch folk art.  “I wanted to keep the colors light, happy, and playful which reflect my own personality as a designer.”
